I’ve recently started drawing on my canvas with oil pastels and then completing in oil paint. WOW, so much better than charcoal which wipes off too easy, or gets mixed into the light colored paint. Not only that, but these oil pastels are rich with pigment, not like some of the cheaper ones out there. This is a set of 72 with innumerable colors that can be made with blending. They are so functional and easy to just lay on the surface that I think I may even try to do an entire artwork in just the pastels.

The best for the price by far! Super creamy and blendable. They allow you to layer successfully. All in all, they are excellent in quality!

Oil pastels come in ranges of hardness and softness, the harder ones are a bit more difficult to blend but you can get some details and a crisper edge when you want one. Softer ones blend with your finger easier and allow for impasto techniques but you can't really get crisp edges or do details at all. These are soft and hand a bit like Sennelier. The good points- The price is excellent. The sticks are well pigmented, there is no excess of wax or crumbs. The 72 color range has lots of useful colors and these are nicely saturated. As for negatives, the color numbering system is odd. I would like some color designation on the paper other than a color number - -And the color numbers are in no discernible order either! Moreover, the color number is near the top of the removable paper so pretty soon, when you inevitably remove that paper, you have no idea what color you had, so complete that that color chart they give you! The trays are snug but oddly they make it hard to retrieve the pastels without grabbing them by the exposed edges, so your fingers get messy. I would say this excellent value for money but only if you like soft oil pastels and impasto techniques and prefer soft edged motifs.

I'm new to oil pastels, I think this product is perfect for beginners like me who likes to experiment. I did color chart to see the colors and how it feels. I was very surprised by its silky texture. I felt like I'm using a butter. I'm not used to color with this crayon shape materials, I might need some practice to get used to. It's a bit mess after use, but it's more like a fun mess and easy to clean. I'm glad I tried this product. It's different than pencils and markers, definitely attractive to create something different. I found the colors are very pretty and the price is good too.

So my piece isn’t completely done yet. But I’ve been using these Meeden oil pastels that my boyfriend bought me. They are so amazing. They are so smooth and easy to blend. The pastels have many color options, all rich in pigment and the price is great. I really recommend purchasing. I’ve been using baby oil and a paint brush to blend the pastels. It’s my first time doing so, but I will definitely use this technique again. A little hard to dry, I used baby oil because I saw it on a video as an alternative to other solvents (I didn’t have anything else). I’m going to spray a thin layer of sealer now, before adding more layers. I’m definitely going to do a series of flower art with these awesome pastels. I love them so much.
